Category: Station News
WACO, TX (May 12, 2014) KWTX Media announces Monday the formation of a longterm partnership with Baylor University, a nationally ranked private university in Waco, Texas.
The partnership, in association with IMG Sports, will allow KWTX Media and Baylor University to bring coverage of the schools topranked athletics and academic programs to viewers throughout Central Texas and beyond. KWTX Media will also work with Baylor to promote a variety of community awareness programs and initiatives.
“This partnership will serve to take Baylor’s message to a larger platform in Central Texas and with national reach through KWTX.com,” said Mike Wright, KWTX Media Vice President/General Manager.
“Baylor’s rise in the national spotlight is often overlooked here at home. We are dedicated to raising that awareness and doing all we can to strengthen Baylor’s image locally and regionally. Baylor’s success is good for all of us, and serves to strengthen the local economy,” said Wright.
The partnership includes the creation of “Baylor Game Day,” a live pregame show broadcasted prior to each home football game from Touchdown Alley at Baylor’s new McLane Stadium. The show will feature exclusive interviews, analysis, and special features from Baylor and the KWTX team.
“Baylor Athletics looks forward to having Baylor Game Day on site this fall and believe it will enhance the McLane Stadium experience for all of our fans,” said Baylor Executive Associate A.D./External Affairs Nick Joos. “This will provide us with another opportunity grow the Baylor brand, and we are excited to partner with KWTX on this program.”
“Baylor Game Day” will be hosted by KWTX personalities Dan Ingham, Sean Giggy, and Brian Kaufman with special live reports from Jeremy Stein. Each show will also feature a special guest from the Baylor family.
“It is our goal that this pregame show exceed fans expectations,” said Wright. “A custom set is under construction, upgrades to our remote broadcasting facilities are underway, and we have preliminary interest and verbal approval for Baylor Game Day to be simulcast on a wellknown sports network.”
The first installment of “Baylor Game Day” will air Sunday, August 31st on KWTXTV and streamed live online at KWTX.com as Baylor hosts SMU for the opening of McLane Stadium.
In addition to “Baylor Game Day,” fans at McLane Stadium will also be able to trust the experience of the Doppler 10 forecasting team for game day weather forecasts. At each home game, KWTX forecasters Rusty Garrett and Brady Taylor will present live, customized weather forecasts just prior to kickoff on the big screen inside McLane Stadium.
“There is only one first time for the opening of a new stadium,” said Wright. “For many of us, something of this magnitude will never happen again in our lifetime. It was important that KWTX Media and Gray Television be part of this historic moment in the history of Baylor University and the City of Waco.”
KWTX Media also announces Monday an exclusive longterm partnership with local radio operators M&M Broadcasting and Townsquare Media. The agreement brings KWTX Media’s award winning news and weather coverage to listeners of nine radio stations throughout Central Texas. M&M Broadcasting’s 1660 ESPN Radio is the flagship radio station of Baylor University.
