10/11’s Kevin Sjuts Named Sportscaster of the Year
Category: Station News
10/11 Sports Director Kevin Sjuts has been named Nebraska’s 2013 “Sportscaster of the Year” by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association & Hall of Fame.
Sjuts joined the 10/11 Sports team in 2005 as the weekend sports anchor and soon earned the title of Sports Director. He has covered some of Nebraska’s biggest sports stories, including the Big Ten switch, the Husker Athletic Director change, the firing of Bill Callahan, followed by the hiring of Bo Pelini, and championships for each of the NSAA high school sports. The 10/11 Sports Team has taken home numerous Associated Press sports awards during Sjuts’ tenure. 10/11 Sports also won the Nebraska Broadcasters’ Association’s “Best Sportscast” honor in two of the last four years.
“We’re so lucky to have Kevin on our team,” said 10/11 News Director Stephanie Hedrick. “He’s truly passionate about what he does – and I think viewers see that.”
10/11’s weekly half-hour high school sports show, 10/11 PrepZone Weekly, began production & aired under Sjuts’ leadership in 2010. The show was the first of its kind in the market, and covers a wide range of prep sports. By 2011, the show garnered a “Best Sports Special” award from the Great Plains Associated Press.
In addition to his regular anchoring/reporting duties, Sjuts has done color commentary for Nebraska’s High School State Basketball tournaments and emceed Football Fridays for the Nebraska Alumni Association. He is also a tireless volunteer for community events, including those for Special Olympics Nebraska and the Nebraska Sports Council.
“I’m incredibly honored,” said Sjuts. “There are many deserving sportscasters across the state. I’m blessed to work in a state that puts sports in such a high regard and blessed to work for a station that has shown me constant support. I go to work every day doing a job I love.”
