KSCW Launching RIGHT NOW with Michael Schwanke
Wichita, Kan. – KSCW, sister station to KWCH 12, will premiere a new news program on April 1, 2019. RIGHT NOW with Michael Schwanke will air weeknights at 6:30 p.m. on KSCW and feature a mix of the day’s six stories you need to know, coverage from across the state, and a weekly deep dive into one issue that affects all of our lives.
“When we began talking about producing a new show at 6:30 p.m., I didn’t want it to be the same traditional newscast,” KWCH 12 and KSCW News Director Kim Wilhelm said. “I truly wanted to create a program that would help make our viewers’ lives better. If RIGHT NOW with Michael Schwanke is the first news program you’re seeing for the day, we want to get you up to speed quickly with “the Six,” the six stories you need to know. Plus, each week we’re going to do an in-depth look into an issue to help improve your life.”
“We try to inform the viewer every newscast. We’ll do that, but I want the viewer to walk away feeling that the ideas and subjects we’ve discussed during RIGHT NOW have improved their life in some way,” KWCH and KSCW Anchor Michael Schwanke said. “We all have concerns and I hope to take a deeper look at issues that directly affect our viewers and their everyday lives. RIGHT NOW will allow us to do that. Topics could range from paying for college, debt and investing, depression and anxiety, balancing our work and personal life, or crime in our communities.”
In addition to “the Six” and the weekly deep dive, RIGHT NOW with Michael Schwanke will search the state for the best stories from across Kansas. RIGHT NOW will feature the work of the Eyewitness News team and area journalists during the show then link back to KWCH.com for additional content.
“Providing high quality journalism has always been a priority for KWCH 12 and it has been our goal to extend that same quality to KSCW,” KWCH 12 and KSCW Vice President and General Manager Brad Moses said. “Not only do we feel that RIGHT NOW with Michael Schwanke is a great addition to our other news products on KSCW, but it gives us the opportunity to produce a news program that is different from our traditional newscasts. We know how people consume TV news is changing and RIGHT NOW with Michael Schwanke allows us to try new things while providing the same level of journalism our viewers expect from us.”
RIGHT NOW with Michael Schwanke will be the fourth locally produced news program on KSCW – joining Eyewitness News this Morning on KSCW, Eyewitness News at 4:00 p.m., and Eyewitness News at 9:00 p.m. – for a total of 23.5 hours of local news and sports each week on KSCW.
KSCW can be picked up over-the-air in the Wichita metro area on channel 33, on Cox Cable channel 5, Dish Network channel 5 and 7054, and on DirecTV channel 33. KSCW is also carried across the Wichita DMA on various cable providers. Check local listings for channel number.
