13abc’s Hope for the Holidays Toy Drive Begins

Category: Station News

An annual toy drive to help local children during the Christmas holidays will be featured on Gray Television’s WTVG in Toledo, Ohio through December 15.

13abc’s Hope for the Holidays program benefits the Salvation Army and U.S. Marine Corps Reserves to provide new toys to area children during the Christmas season. Last year, more than 25,000 toys were donated. Since the Hope for the Holidays campaign began in 2011, more than 113,000 toys have been distributed locally through the station’s efforts and generosity of viewers.

The Salvation Army conducted an earlier application process for those families who need assistance and more than 1,300 families applied.

13abc will partner with Vito’s Pizza, Arnold’s Home Improvement, Dave White Chevrolet and Acura and Jim White Toyota and Gallon, Takacs, Boissoneault & Schaffer to present Hope for the Holidays. A new concert in downtown Toledo began this year’s campaign. The concert featured two choirs and those attending joined them in singing Christmas carols.

An annual “drive through bash” will be held on Friday, December 8 all day at 13abc studios in Toledo and in Findlay and Bowling Green, Ohio. Volunteers will accept new toys throughout the day. The bash celebration includes food and free entertainment for those driving through to drop off toys and has become an annual tradition for many in the community who want to help others during the holidays.
