Local WAGM-TV Anchor Shawn Cunningham Wins Mrs. Maine American Woman of Service 2018…Now Prepares for National Competition.
(Presque Isle-Maine)—Local television news anchor/reporter Shawn Cunningham has won the Mrs. Maine American Woman of Service 2018 state title. Over the next year, Shawn will represent the title while continuing to promote the importance of community empowerment and individual leadership through service, her platform initiative called “The Business of Service.” She will also serve as one the service ambassadors for the organization United Against Bullying Maine/The Crown Cares, which coordinates the state pageant. The projects are two programs of Cross Roads Productions.
Cunningham won the title at the state competition in Saco. In addition to the title, Cunningham received several other awards including the State Role Model Award for her division and the State Video award. Her service efforts were also recognized on the national level this year by receiving the Bronze level Presidential Volunteer Service Award for committing a number of dedicated hours of community service in 2016.
Although balancing a busy full time schedule of family and job, Shawn says service work is a commitment she will always maintain. Shawn says “I believe service IS THE way to develop leadership skills on and off the job. My platform is about cultivating corporate partnerships (the business sector) with civic organizations to coalition and promote service opportunities that strengthen our workforce and above all else strengthen a resolve to build stronger communities.”
Shawn is the Morning Anchor/Reporter for WAGM This Morning. She is also the station's health correspondent for "Medical Mondays,” and Producer of the station’s online web series “AM Chat with Shawn Cunningham.”
