Another WOWT NBC Omaha First!
Category: Station News
WOWT NBC Omaha has always been proud to be first in our market:
First on the air
First in color
First media website
First in HD
First on the social media front
On January 26, 2015 WOWT 6 News will launch another first, debuting a 6pm one- hour newscast. The new one-hour newscast from 6pm – 7pm will be anchored by our popular main anchor team, John Knicely, Malorie Maddox, Mike LaPoint and Ross Jernstrom.
To make room for additional news, Extra will move from 6:30pm to the 4pm– 4:30pm timeslot, replacing First News Live at Four. First News Live at Four began in 1996, filling a news void at the time. However, 18 years later much has changed. In the mid 90’s we lived in a world where we didn’t have smartphones, many didn’t even have cell phones. The internet was not a part of our daily lives. Today, WOWT 6 News delivers content on the variety of platforms our viewers use every day.
Viewing habits have shifted as well. “It’s time for a newscast that caters to viewers who don’t get home from work, school, or family activities until after 6pm, viewers who still want John, Malorie, Mike and Ross to catch them up on everything that has happened and an hour-by-hour forecast to prepare them for evening errands and events,” said Vic Richards, WOWT NBC Omaha’s Vice President and General Manager.
WOWT is proud and excited to continue our reputation of being first and responding to our viewer’s and community’s needs.
