WRDW-TV NEWS 12’S ESTELLE PARSLEY HONORED BY NATIONAL ACADEMY OF TELEVISION ARTS &
WRDW-TV News 12’s VP of News & Operations Estelle Parsley has been inducted into the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle of broadcast professionals.
Silver Circle induction recognizes television professionals who have worked for 25 years or more in the industry in a performing, creative, technical or administrative position, and who have made significant contributions not only to the industry but to their communities in the southeast region. The induction ceremony took place September 20, 2013 in Atlanta.
In the 16 years she has been the news director at WRDW, Estelle has been a champion for investigative journalism and transparency in local government. News 12 reports have led to a Georgia House Subcommittee investigation into state regulation of nursing homes and resulted in federal indictments for wrongful spending by an elected official. In 2011, Estelle received a national Edward R. Murrow and was nominated for an Emmy for a documentary she produced exposing a black market for babies.
Under her leadership, News 12 has been recognized with more than 50 prestigious awards and honors, including the national Sigma Delta Chi Award for Best Public Service in Journalism, 2 national and 16
regional Edward R. Murrow awards for Investigative Reporting, Overall Excellence, and Spot News Coverage. The Georgia Associated Press has recognized WRDW’s newsroom three times with its Pacemaker Award, honoring newsrooms that exemplify overall excellence in reporting.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is the national organization responsible for the Emmy Awards. NATAS Southeast’s Gold Circle and Silver Circle designations are the regional chapter’s most prestigious awards, honoring a lifetime of dedication to the television industry. NATAS’s Southeast chapter based in Atlanta covers Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. The organization promotes and celebrates excellence in media at the local and regional level.
