Amanda Barren promoted to main anchor at WSAZ

HUNTINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA - WSAZ Newschannel 3 has announced that Amanda Barren has been promoted to the evening news anchor position on the station’s flagship newscasts at 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM, joining Tim Irr as co-anchor. She will anchor from WSAZ’s Charleston studios, while Irr will be in Huntington.

Barren served as a WSAZ anchor and reporter beginning in 2006. From 2010 to 2012 she anchored at WKYC - TV in Cleveland. She rejoined the WSAZ news team in December 2012, co-anchoring NewsChannel 3’s “First at 5:00” newscast with Bill Murray.

“Amanda cares deeply about our community.” said Dan Fabrizio, news director. “She’s a veteran journalist, and she takes very seriously the responsibility of providing people with the information they need to make their lives better.”

“Her professionalism and background here make her a natural fit as our main co-anchor.” added Matt Jaquint, WSAZ general manager

“Viewer response has been extremely positive.” NewsChannel 3 Six O’clock is the region’s the most watched newscast with nearly three times the combined audience of the other local TV newscasts at 6:00PM. “NewsChannel 3 Tonight” at 11:00 PM also averages almost three times the viewers of the other newscasts combined.

Barren will also anchor “WSAZ Ten O’clock News” on myZ TV.
